Flood Damage in Argentina Still Being Evaluated
Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.
Heavy floods rocked northern Buenos Aires province in recent days, resulting in widespread flooding. Unfortunately, this is the most highly productive area of the country and farmers were expecting a very good crop. Approximately 750,000 hectares (1.8 million acres) were impacted in some way by the flooding. Losses may be in the range of 1-2 million tons, but we won't know until harvest. In the hardest hit areas in northern Buenos Aires, some locations have already received 70-90% of the average yearly total rainfall.
There may be additional losses due to stored grain as well. I will be lowering my 2024/2025 Argentina soybean estimate 1.5 million tons to 48.5 million.
